A red bellied woodpecker at Crabtree Lake County Park in Raleigh

Hi, Bill Jackson here. I’m a travel and nature photographer who recently relocated to Raleigh, NC. Since I moved, I have fallen in love with the local wildlife. Sally was kind enough to allow me to post some photos as a guest on her blog.

This photo of a red bellied woodpecker was taken at Crabtree Lake County Park, in Raleigh. I found this bird feeder there along with a picnic table where I could wait for the birds to feed. I used a Panasonic Lumix GX-85, with telephoto zoom.

This shot was a little difficult, as the feeder was in deep shade, and I was shooting without a tripod. Fortunately, this bird was a little more relaxed than the others I had seen that day, and allowed me to capture several photos. Using burst mode, I was able to catch the moment where the bird was pulling out a seed from the feeder.

I hope you enjoyed this photo, and you have luck finding your own relaxed bird. I have many other bird and wildlife photos, along with some shots from my many trips around the world, over on my website www.billjacksonimages.com. You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram!

Thanks for reading!
