The Annual great backyard Bird count 2020: A report from North Carolina

What a fun weekend of birding I had during the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count here in the Raleigh, NC area!
From my own backyard, to Yates Mill Park, Campbell University, and Bass Lake Park.
I ticked 30 different species in 4 days and enjoyed every second of it. Here’s a few highlight birds and a summery of my lists from the event.

Northern Cardinal
Eastern Bluebird
Carolina Chickadee
Eastern Phoebe, Yates Mill Park Raleigh N.C.

My favorite sighting was of the Pileated Woodpecker I spotted in my own backyard.

The photo I took of this impressively large Woodpecker was admittedly not my best work but tbh, I feel lucky just to have grabbed a quick photograph of her before she disappeared deeper into the woods. Such incredible creatures!

Field Sparrow Yates Mill Park, Raleigh N.C.
Yellow-rumped warbler at Bass Lake Park, Holly Springs N.C.
Red-tailed Hawk Bass Lake Park, Holly Springs N.C.

To top it off, I ran into a group from the Wake County Audubon Society while birding at Yates Mill Park.
It was great to meet some of you in person, who’s beautiful photos I’ve seen on Instagram and Facebook!
