What a girl wants, what a girl needs, is a ghillie suit (and a bird blind park)

Yesterday I was on the hunt for a list of N.C. parks that offered a photography/ viewing blind on site.I posed the question to my fellow birders in a few groups and received the following location recommendations below…

Carolina Sandhills NWR

Pea Island NWF

Lake Mattamuskeet

Pungo Lake

Brumley South Nature Preserve

Pilot Mountain State Park

PeeDee NWR

Prairie Ridge Ecostation

Alligator River NWR

Ya, know? This seems like a short list for such a big state. I wish that we had more parks that offered this kind of amenity. Maybe I / we could raise some money to build these structures by partnering up with a larger organization. If you are interested in helping out with this idea, shoot me a message! In the meantime, I’m adding these locations to my trip itinerary for next year. Gotta go check these sites out in person for sure : )

This morning, I woke up thinking about a portable solution so off to Amazon I went. I was happy to see that apparently “mobile blinds” are a real thing as well as “ghillie poncho capes”.

Lol, so cool! I would totally wear one of those ponchos. It would have come in handy last week during my trip to Umstead Park. Heck, I might even buy a mobile blind and set it up in my own backyard. might tick off my neighbors though, haha! Oh well 😉
In fact I love this stuff so much that I added the items to my birding wish list. My husband is going to be confused if he logs into my Amazon account for Christmas gift ideas, lol!

If you want to check it out a few more examples of stealthy birding equipment for yourself (or as a gift for the sneaky birder in your life) I’ve added a few mobile blinds and the ghillie poncho capes to the shop on my website.

Just scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and that’s where you’ll find them. By the way, if you see something that would make a cool gift for yourself let me know! I am always on the lookout for recommendations for products to add to my shop.

Happy Birding!
